Stunell Presses For Dog Fur Ban

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 15th Nov 2002

Hazel Grove MP Andrew Stunell has urged the Government to declare its commitment to the welfare of animals by taking decisive action to stop the import of products made with dog and cat fur entering the UK.

Mr Stunell said, "Many Stockport residents are being misinformed and misled about the type of fur products they are buying and they are looking to the Minister of Trade to take action to end this deception."

"The United States has already banned the import of products made with dog and cat fur. This is leading to a huge influx of unwanted products into the British market. It's crucial that the Government take action now.

"The Government need to monitor the situation properly and put in place workable measures to identify products that are coming into this country made of cat and dog fur. The present system just isn't good enough".
