MPs To Work With Stockport Chamber On New Roads12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 7th Nov 2002 Stockports two Liberal Democrat MPs held a key meeting with Stockport Chamber of Commerce and Industry aimed at speeding up plans to improve the towns transport links. Andrew Stunell said, "The Chamber wants a cut in congestion and pollution with all the costs and inconvenience they cause to businesses. We are keen to work with them to get the new roads built and the Metro tram brought to Stockport" The MPs, Andrew Stunell and Patsy Calton are pushing transport minister David Jamieson to cut red tape with the date for a start on site in 2006. The Chamber has already lobbied the Government in support of the new transport links. Now both are planning to work with the Stockport Council on a crucial battle to get a quick start. Patsy Calton MP said, "Everyone recognises that there is a huge benefit to local people and to the environment if we can get good public transport and divert traffic off our local road network." "The plans have been ready for years. We all want to work to see them started."
