Andrew continues to campaign against unfair Council Tax

Paying too much Council Tax? A national competition to find who pays the highest proportion of their income in council tax has been launched this week by the Liberal Democrats.

The competition highlights the Liberal Democrat 'Axe the Tax' campaign to replace council tax with a fairer alternative based on people's ability to pay, and comes as a government review of Council Tax is being drawn up.

Commenting on the competition and campaign, Hazel Grove MP and Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and local Government Andrew Stunell said:

"This is a light-hearted way to draw attention to a really serious problem.

"Council Tax is an extremely unfair tax, hitting people on fixed incomes, such as many senior citizens, particularly hard.

"With council tax, people who can afford it least, get hit the hardest."

If you think someone you know could be the 'winner', Mr Stunell would like to hear from you.
