North West MEP comes to town to Cut Crime3.04.53pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 3rd Apr 2007
Tomorrow morning, North West MEP Sajjad Karim will join forces with Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell in Romiley to campaign for the reinstatement of the 216 police officers that were cut from Greater Manchester's force this year. They will listen to local people's experiences of crime and antisocial behaviour and will collect petitions for fair funding for Greater Manchester Police in Romiley Precinct. Commenting on the campaign, Mr Stunell said: "I am delighted that our campaign to reinstate Greater Manchester's Police cuts has attracted the support of North West MEP, Sajjad Karim. "Many people have contacted me since we started the campaign, appalled at the Government cuts to our police force." North West MEP, Sajjad Karim added: "The Government has underfunded the police in Greater Manchester at a time when we need more bobbies on the beat, not less. Violent crime has doubled under Labour and conviction rates have never been lower. "Living in a secure, safe community is vital to everyone and we are campaigning to make sure this is the case in Stockport." Notes to editors: 1. Members of the press are welcome to attend the campaign re-launch: Wednesday 4th April, 10.30-11.30, Romiley Precinct.
