MP brews up support for cancer sufferers6.56.20pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 27th Sep 2007
Local MP Andrew Stunell will be joining local residents to raise money for cancer sufferers this Friday morning at Macmillan Cancer Support's 'World's Biggest Coffee Morning'. The event taking place at Bredbury Library from 10.30am is part of Macmillan's Annual Fundraiser and one of hundreds of similar events happening across the country. Mr Stunell said: "Cancer is a modern day epidemic. In Stockport alone 6,000 people are living with a cancer diagnosis, and many more are forced to watch their loved ones suffer with the disease. "Macmillan Cancer Support is there for people from the moment they are diagnosed, with practical help and support. Last year over £6.8 million was raised in the UK. I hope that we can do even better this year and help Macmillan develop more new services to help people affected by cancer." ENDS Notes to editors: 1. One in three of us will get cancer. 2. 1.2 million people are currently living with it. 3. Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer, providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support. 4. For more information contact http://www.macmillan.org.uk/
