MP fights for more affordable housing in North West7.09.17pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 13th Nov 2007
Better access to affordable housing is needed in the North-West, claims Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell. The local MP joined today with other North West Members of Parliament at the launch of the North West Housing Forum's push to secure more sustainable and accessible housing for the region. Commenting on the launch of the new document, The case for housing in the North West: The region's contribution to homes for the future, Mr Stunell, said: "Access to affordable, decent housing is a right, not a privilege, but too many people in Stockport are inadequately housed. We need to make sure that we regenerate unused housing and build new homes where appropriate. "I am working hard with the North West Housing Forum to put pressure on the Government to make affordable, accessible homes a reality for all." ENDS Notes to editors: 1. The North West Regional Housing Forum is an inclusive and independent body which represents strategic housing organisations and a range of other stakeholders who have a shared interest in influencing policy and maximising resources to meet the housing and housing related needs of the Region. 2. A Liberal Democrat policy paper, 'Homes for All', written by Andrew Stunell MP, outlines plans for an additional 10,000 new homes in Stockport, 25% of which will be affordable, and a further 25% social homes to rent.
