Local MP encourages next generation of journalists2.46.55pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 21st Dec 2007
Local MP, Andrew Stunell, is calling on young writers in Hazel Grove to enter the prestigious ifs Young Business Writer of the Year competition. The competition, open to anybody aged 14-19, is entitled "Saving for the future: one size fits all?" and has a prize of £500. Mr Stunell is writing to local schools to encourage their pupils to take part in the financial education charity competition. He said: "This is an excellent opportunity for young people to develop an interest in entrepreneurship and business, as well as improving their writing skills". "The budding young journalists of Hazel Grove can use this competition to contribute to the debate on a really relevant issue, receive recognition from top journalists and even win some money for their own savings!" ENDS Notes to editors: The ifs Young Business Writer of the Year competition encourages young people of 14-19 years to submit a 1,000 word magazine style piece with the title: "Saving for the future: one size fits all?" Entries must be sent to ybwy@ifslearning.ac.uk by 29 February 2008 The competition will be judged by Independent journalist James Daley, who will offer marks for demonstrating research, evaluation, analysis and written argument skills as well as for a good overall reporting style.
